Pet Rabbit Stolen in Whitehall

Also, a Rite Aid front door is smashed, and other police news is reported in the borough from this past week.

Rabbit Stolen

A resident of 's 5100 block of Cherryvale Drive called at around 11:32 p.m. on Sunday to report that someone had taken a pet rabbit and rabbit cage from the resident's back patio, police Deputy Chief Richard M. Danko said.

The 8-year-old rabbit, Cocoa, has black fur and weighs 2 pounds.

Police are investigating the incident but would not comment on whether or not this man is a person of interest.

Video evidence shows an unknown male with black gloves using unknown objects to smash the front glass door of the at Whitehall's early on Sunday morning, Danko said.

A Whitehall police officer observed the damage at around 5:30 a.m. that day while on patrol. Oddly, store management reported no items missing, as the tape shows that the male never entered the store.

"It appears as if something scared him off," Danko said.

The video, obtained from security cameras in the area, shows the male, who was possibly wearing some type of mask over his face, scraping and smashing Rite Aid's door at around 2:13 a.m. before looking inside and leaving the area.

He is believed to be white, Danko said, with a slim build. He may be in his 20s or 30s and was wearing a white T-shirt, black shorts, white sneakers and a baseball cap with black bands going around it.

The incident is under investigation. Danko said that authorities are trying to enhance the security video in order to better see the would-be thief.

Car Dinged on Community Day

At around 9:05 p.m. on Saturday, a resident from the 1100 block of Varner Road reported to Whitehall police that, sometime between 1 and 4 that afternoon, someone had sideswiped her car while it was parked near the intersection of Wheaton and Par drives for borough festivities.

The person who committed the act did not leave personally identifiable information at the scene.

The total damage to the victim's 2009 silver Chrysler is unknown. There are several scrape marks on the Chrysler's driver's side.
