Officer Challenged to a Chase in Baldwin Borough

Police notes from May 7-20.

DUI Arrest on Churchview Avenue

A Baldwin Borough police officer noticed a motorist driving erratically on Churchview Avenue at around 2:52 a.m. on May 8.

"The vehicle was not staying to the right of the roadway and was crowding my lane of travel," reported the officer.

The officer was following the car when it suddenly turned around and pulled up alongside the officer, at which point the driver challenged the officer to a chase.

The suspect, 39-year-old John Christopher Mitchell, of Longfellow Drive in Homestead Borough, was quickly apprehended by another officer in the area. Mitchell was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

DUI Arrest on Streets Run Road

Eric Pio Andrews, 40, of Meadowcrest Road in Baldwin Borough, was arrested on May 11 and faces DUI charges after an incident on Streets Run Road in which a police officer noticed Andrews driving "unusually slow for a 35-mph zone."

Crash Due to Drunk Driving

Steve Gault, 53, of Pinchtown Road in Baldwin Borough, was arrested on DUI charges outside of the Shop 'n Save on Joseph Street on May 13 after wrecking his car.

Gault told officers that he had been drinking at an American Legion location just before the incident. No one was injured in the accident.

False Alarm Leads to a Drunken Discovery

When a Baldwin Borough police officer was sent to a Kokosing Construction Company location in response to a burglar alarm on May 17, he instead found a car that had crashed into a jersey barrier at the edge of a construction site.

Two security guards who had inadvertently set off the alarm had also noticed the wrecked car. The car's driver, Elaine Catherine Healy, 24, of Carriage Drive in Marshall Township, was still in her driver's seat when the Baldwin officer arrived at the scene.

The car sustained heavy damage to its passenger's side, but Healy was not significantly injured.

She was charged with DUI.

At least no one was hurt in any of these incidents. So good that the police were "on top of it" in all situations!

I hate driving at night anymore home from work as there are so many drunk drivers all over the place. If I could switch my hours to day I would, but can't. I have learned to pull over when I see a car behind me swerving all over the road and do the same if I see someones headlights in front of me swerving.

I just wish that if people are going to drink and drive then call a friend or a taxi to take you home.
