Money Taken from Vehicle on Castleview Drive

A Baldwin Borough resident contacted Baldwin police at around 8 a.m. on Friday complaining that someone had recently entered an unlocked vehicle while it was parked on the street in front of his residence, according to a police report.

The resident—from the 2800 block of Castleview Drive—said that the entry occurred sometime overnight and that a Ziploc bag containing $20 worth of change was taken from the vehicle.

Police are investigating.

Money Taken from Vehicles Along Lechner Lane

A Baldwin Borough resident came into the Baldwin police station at around 2:30 p.m. on Thursday complaining that someone had recently entered two unlocked vehicles while they were parked in his driveway, according to a police report.

The resident—from the 600 block of Lechner Lane—said that the entries occurred sometime between 7:30 the night before and 7 that morning and that a small amount of change was taken from both vehicles.

Police are investigating.

Telephone Scam Alert

A Baldwin Borough police officer spoke to a borough resident at around 7:19 p.m. on Thursday about a believed fraud attempt, according to a police report.

The resident told the officer that he received a call earlier that evening from a female using an 876 area code and that that female was claiming that the resident had won some money.

The female, who said that she was calling from Las Vegas, told the resident that she already spoke with his Social Security office and a bank in Florida.

The resident did not give the caller any personally identifiable information and told her that he thinks that she's trying to scam him. He also told her that he was going to call police, and at that point, she hung up.

The officer then called the number in question and spoke to a male, who said that he was new to the state. When asked what state, the male said, "Tennessee."

The officer expressed concerns to the male about this being a scam, and at that point, the male hung up. And when the officer called that number again, the call went straight to the number's voicemail.

The officer checked the area code through an Internet search engine, which showed 876 as coming from Jamaica.

The officer advised the resident that this was a scam attempt and advised him to contact his phone service provider to have the number blocked.
