Families and friends visiting Pennsylvania's popular outdoor spots, such as the Monongahela River, this holiday weekend can enjoy a day of free fishing, thanks to the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission.

Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 3, marks the second of the state's two free fishing days of 2012 when no fishing license is required. Fish-for-Free Days allow anyone—residents and non-residents—to legally fish in Pennsylvania from 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m.

All other fishing regulations apply.

The year's earlier Fish-for-Free Day was Memorial Day, May 28.

"Fish-for-Free days are a convenient way to introduce friends and family to the sport of fishing," Fish and Boat Commission Executive Director John Arway said. "Many families spend the day at lakes and parks throughout the state. Now, they can try fishing at no cost.

"We know that, once people try it, particularly kids, they will see that fishing is a great recreational activity, and they will want to do it more."

More information about Fish-for-Free Days is available on the commission's website at www.fish.state.pa.us/fishforfree.htm.

To make it even easier to get started—or restarted—in fishing, visit the commission's website at www.fishandboat.com and select "Fish" from the lefthand navigation bar. From the drop-down menu, select Fishing Fundamentals.

Nice that PA is giving a second day of free fishing this year. As long as there isn't thunder and lightning will be a fun day for people that like to fish but cant' afford to buy license.
