Momsday: The Great Escape

The Woman's Club of Baldwin Borough wants you at its biggest event of the year on Saturday, March 26, at the South Hills Country Club from noon to 3 p.m.

Hello, moms! Spring is finally here! Time to start that spring cleaning ...

But let's not talk about that. Let's talk about what you can do to get out with your husband and friends this week. So put down that dust rag and make some plans to get out and enjoy your weekend.

Looking for a great fish dinner for Lent again this week? Saint Albert the Great Catholic Parish in North Baldwin has a fish fry every Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. The parish's menu includes fish, shrimp or crab-cake dinners with the choice of two sides.

Saint Albert's also offers many a la carte choices. On Friday, March 25, the parish is actually offering Italian sausage for the Feast of the Annunciation.

Diners can eat-in or call ahead for take out at 412-440-0221. Get out and socialize with your neighbors again this week!

After dinner, you can head down Churchview Avenue to the nearby Backdraft Bar & Grille with your friends for some drinks and a game of darts or pool. If you're into hard rock music, the band Broken Bone will play there on Friday night at 9:30 p.m. The cover charge is $5 at the door.

Ladies, looking to spend a great day out with your friends? The Woman's Club of Baldwin Borough is holding its biggest event of the year on Saturday, March 26, at the South Hills Country Club from noon to 3 p.m.

The event will feature a luncheon, fashion show and card party. There will also be door prizes, a Chinese auction, a 50-50 raffle and more. This is a big fundraiser for the club, and its members hope to see a big crowd come out for a fun-filled day with them.

Proceeds from the club's fundraising efforts go toward many great causes in our community, including scholarships for women and support for local food banks, ambulance services, police departments, the Baldwin Borough Public Library and many other great causes too numerous to list.

Tickets for the entire March 26 event cost only $25. You can make reservations by calling "Kathy" at 412-884-3726. So come and have a great day with your friends while helping the Woman's Club of Baldwin Borough in its efforts to help better our community.

And finally, for some of that quiet time by yourself – and with spring in the air – why not head over to the Baldwin library or the Whitehall Public Library to pick up a book on gardening?

I love getting my hands in the dirt and planting some seeds to grow into beautiful summertime flowers. Now is the time to start planning for those flowerbeds so that we can all sit outside and enjoy the fragrant fruits of our labor once summer is here! Ah, there is nothing more relaxing.

Enjoy your week, moms!
