Hello, moms! It's going to be another fun-filled week in Baldwin-Whitehall, and it’s looking like the weather is going to be a little cooler this week to perhaps make outdoor time a tad more comfortable.

I'm sure that everyone in Baldwin-Whitehall knows what this Saturday, June 18, is. It's Baldwin-Whitehall's Kennywood Day!

That's right: time for Potato Patch fries, funnel cakes, roller coasters, other rides and games galore! If you forgot to buy your community tickets, head to Giant Eagle for $11 off of all-day passes.

Kennywood opens at 10:30 a.m. this Saturday and closes at approximately 10 p.m. (depending on weather and crowd conditions). Have you experienced the park's new Sky Rocket roller coaster yet? Zero to 50 mph in just three seconds?! That's sure to be the newest thrilling experience at Kennywood.

I'll see you there. I've been looking forward to some Potato Patch fries and deep-fried Oreos this week myself!

Sunday, June 19, is Father's Day, and that is time to treat dad to his day. Instead of making dad breakfast in bed, why not go out for brunch? The Getaway Cafe and Thee Olde Place Inn are both featuring brunches that sound much better than anything that the kids can cook up. The Getaway will be serving filet mignon and eggs for $10.95 on Sunday from 8:30 a.m. until noon.

Thee Olde Place is featuring a brunch buffet from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The price there is $14.95 per adult, and for kids aged 10 and younger, it's $7.95 each. Thee Olde Place's buffet will include a wide variety of breakfast items along with a wonderful selection of meats, seafood and hot dishes. Both restaurants will also have dinner specials that day if dad feels like sleeping in a little longer.

Looking for a gift idea for dad? If he's a gardening enthusiast, don't forget about Chapon's Greenhouses for all of his gardening needs.

Is dad a fitness fanatic? How about a membership to one of the gyms in our area (1, 2) so that he can work out indoors when it's just too hot to do it outside.

Does dad enjoy some quality time on the couch watching movies? How about a gift certificate for Family Video? There are lots of great shopping places in Baldwin-Whitehall to pick up that perfect gift for dad. Dads deserve their day to be pampered, too!

For another great time outdoors, Saint Albert the Great Catholic Parish's annual Summerfest carnival will be held from Monday, June 20, through Saturday, June 25, this year, from 7 to 11 p.m. This is yet another great event in Baldwin-Whitehall that brings out the community for some good laughs, eats and fun.

As always, the parish will be serving dinner nightly so that mom doesn't have to cook. The carnival will also have lots of rides, games, prizes and raffles. Don't forget to head inside the parish buildings for great tag sales and a fun game of bingo.

So it's another great week to get out, enjoy the weather and have some summertime fun! Don’t forget to get in some time for yourself this week, moms. I will see you at the tag sales at Saint Albert's for a little unwinding time away from the kids. Shopping is always fun, and it's even better when you find a great deal!
