UPDATES: Martin Schmotzer Takes Oath of Office

Pennsylvania's new 22nd District representative sworn in on Tuesday.

Martin Michael Schmotzer, a former Baldwin-Whitehall School Board member who represents Pennsylvania's 22nd District in its House of Representatives for the remainder of 2012, was sworn into office today at the state Capitol building in Harrisburg.

The 22nd District includes includes at least parts of Whitehall BoroughBaldwin Township and Castle Shannon Borough and the Pittsburgh neighborhoods of OverbrookBrooklineMount WashingtonBeechviewDuquesne HeightsManchesterSheraden and Esplen.

Schmotzer, a Democrat who lives in Whitehall, defeated Republican Chris Cratsley, of Overbrook, in a special election on April 24 to fill the remainder of former Rep. Chelsa Wagner's term.

Also on April 24, Cratsley and Democrat Erin Molchany won their parties' primary elections and will compete in November to become the 22nd District's representative in 2013.

Rep. Frank Dermody, a Democrat from the state's 33rd District and the House's minority leader, welcomed Schmotzer on Tuesday in a swearing-in video broadcast live on pahouse.com.

"Marty is a small-business owner and a longtime school board member of the Baldwin-Whitehall School District," Dermody said. "He understands the importance of education as a tool for economic development.

"As a resident of the southern suburbs of Pittsburgh, Marty knows the importance of transportation to the state—mass transit, roads and bridges.

"We're looking forward to working with Marty and seeing his leadership on school finance and transportation issues."

Said Schmotzer in a press release later, "I am honored to serve as the voice of over 60,000 constituents in Harrisburg, and I look forward to helping many of you with your questions and concerns that involve state government."

What a joke and feel sorry for the citizens in the district he represents.

Assuming Erin Mulchany wins for the 2-year seat in November, the first thing I would do if I was her would be to have an audit done since she will be replacing Martin Schmotzer in this position. She should protect herself and the taxpayers with an audit.

I'm not a union girl of today... however Jubilee and Little Sisters of the Poor are on top.
I don't always agree with what you have to say but that is o.k.. I have seen the good in you and know that you will continue to do.Your well on your way.
I have learned to put certain commentary to rest. None of us would pass the test! I wish you and your family all the BEST!

Thank God that Marty Schmotzer will not be in this office long ........ we need some real representation. Not just someone looking for what he can get out of it. Retire Marty ... the people of this area do not want you representing them. Retire finally and sell your windows and Steelers tickets.

From a Patch article prior to the Primary. A quote from Martin Michael Schomtzer (is it still Michael or his real name Leopold?): "I will not accept a state car. I will not accept state car insurance. I will not accept state health insurance. " Has the Patch checked on this? Is Schmotzer doing what he said before the election?

Hi, bd! Just seeing this now as I am back from vacation starting tomorrow morning. According to Schmotzer's office, yes, that is all true.

Robert - Welcome back. Thanks for checking, but I would ask for more proof than from Schmotzer's office people. There has to some some agency within the bloated state governemnt that could provide documentation.
