The Baldwin Highlander Marching Band took the national stage on Monday by participating in the National Memorial Day Parade in Washington, DC.

The band was first featured that day in a national TV broadcast of the parade's opening presentation, honoring the United States with a number that featured almost 90 American flags.

In the parade itself, the Highlanders played "Mainstreet America," a medley that includes  "You're a Grand Old Flag" and songs honoring each branch of the U.S. Armed Forces.

The Baldwin High School students braved high temperatures (over 90 degrees for much of the day) and performed spectacularly down Constitution Avenue—past the Smithsonian Museums, Washington Monument and White House.

The performance was part of the band's spring trip with additional stops made at the National Aquarium and Fort McHenry in Baltimore, as well as a tour of the Capitol Building in DC and monuments around the National Mall, and a visit to the Air and Space Museum near Dulles International Airport.
