1. 4th Annual Christmas Tree Recycling
Where?/When?: South Park/Through Jan. 22, 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
Why Go?: Area residents can take their Christmas tree—real, not artificial—to the South Park Wave Pool parking lot to have it recycled. The trees will be turned into mulch that will be used in parks throughout Allegheny County. All lights, tinsel and other decorations, as well as tree stands, must be removed from the trees prior to being dropped off.

2. “Laugh Out Loud!”
Where?/When?: Pittsburgh Public Theater (Downtown)/Thursday-Friday, Jan. 5-6, 8 p.m.
Why Go?: The Pittsburgh Public Theater welcomes 2012 with comedy! The Second City returns with a new show: “Laugh Out Loud!” If you've resolved to put more fun in your life, start the year at the Pittsburgh Public Theater with The Second City, the famed Chicago comedy troupe that has launched the careers of Tina Fey, Stephen Colbert, Steve Carell and many others.

3. Preschool Storytime
Where?/When?: Baldwin Borough Public Library/Friday, Jan 6, 10-10:45 a.m.
Why Go?: Children aged 3 and older are invited to join in on stories, songs and crafts!
Pricing: FREE.
4. PIHL Charity Hockey Games
Where?/When?: South Park/Friday, Jan. 6, 6 p.m.
Why Go?: The 2012 Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League charity games will be held at the South Park Ice Rink. A 6 p.m. game will feature Westmont Hilltop High School vs. Quaker Valley High School, and proceeds from that game will benefit UPMC's Hillman Cancer Center. After that game, Mt. Lebanon High School will play Pittsburgh Central Catholic High School (at around 8 p.m.) in a game benefiting the Paul Sciullo II Scholarship.
Pricing: $5 per person for the night.
5. Storytime Olé
Where?/When?: Whitehall Public Library/Saturday, Jan. 7, 10-11 a.m.
Why Go?: Children can come to learn everyday Spanish through a bilingual storytime. No Spanish experience is necessary. Suggested ages for this event are 5 to 10. Please do not bring children under the age of 3. Register by calling 412-882-6622.

6. Trax Farms Indoor Flea Market
Where?/When?: Trax Farms Market (South Park Township)/Saturday-Sunday, Jan. 7-8, 10 a.m.
Why Go?: Need something for the family to do during the winter? There is no better place to turn to than the Trax Farms Indoor Flea Market. You are guaranteed to find something unique from 83 vendors selling antiques, gifts, collectibles, clothing, apparel, hobby items, food and much more. Whether you're just browsing or ready to buy, there is something for everyone!

7. Technology Open House
Where?/When?: Whitehall Public Library/Saturday, Dec. 7, 1-3 p.m.
Why Go?: Don't be shy! Look no further than the Whitehall Public Library's Technology Open House! A talented panel of local teen "experts" will be on hand to tackle technology-related questions and concerns about iPads, smartphones, Facebook and more. Stop by the Second Chapter Café for a visit and share a cup of coffee. The teens will be happy to assist you.

8. Multi-Strand Chain Scarf Demo
Where?/When?: Michaels (Bethel Park)/Saturday, Jan. 7, 3-4 p.m.
Why Go?: Wrap yourself in creativity with a multi-strand chain scarf. This program is for those aged 3 and older.

9. “Charlotte’s Web”
Where?/When?: Byham Theater (Downtown)/Sunday, Jan. 8, 2 p.m.
Why Go?: TheatreworksUSA's live stage performance of “Charlotte’s Web” by Joseph Robinette has toured across the country since the fall of 1993 and is based on the Newbery Medal-winning book by E. B. White of the same name. The stage performance follows White's classic story of a pig named Wilbur who is saved from the slaughterhouse by a gifted little barn spider named Charlotte. This treasured tale, featuring madcap and endearing farm animals, explores bravery, selfless love and the true meaning of friendship.
