The Pittsburgh Penguins, Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald and Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl will hold a "Ground the Flyers" rally at the Allegheny County Courthouse Courtyard on Wednesday at noon.
Bob McLaughlin from The X Morning Show will emcee the event, Iceburgh the mascot is expected to attend, music will be provided by Kardaz, and Turner Dairy Farms and Snyder of Berlin will be providing some refreshments for attendees.
Fitzgerald and Ravenstahl have declared Wednesday "A Great Day for Hockey," and they are encouraging fans to show their Penguins pride by donning black and gold to mark the team's first game of the 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs against the Philadelphia Flyers that night.
They are also asking those attending the rally to bring a canned good, non-perishable food item and/or cash donation for a Scouting for Food drive, which benefits the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.
The Penguins are asking fans attending Wednesday night's game against the Flyers at CONSOL Energy Center to wear white at the game to create a "white out." For those who do not have tickets, the game will be shown on the "Big Screen" in the parking lot of the Epiphany Catholic Church adjacent to Washington Place and positioned toward Fifth Avenue.
