Check Out This Century III Mall Nostalgia Website

Talk about a trip down Memory Lane, err ... Route 51.

Out of pure luck one day, I came across an incredible website, one of those sites that can suck you in for hours if you're not careful.

As someone who grew up in Pittsburgh's South Hills area and went to high school at Baldwin, clicking through the images on this website was like a trip down Memory Lane. Well, more like Route 51.

Without further ado, I introduce to you the "C3Nostalgia" group from Flickr, an online photo-sharing application.

The full Web address is http://www.flickr.com/groups/c3nostalgia/.

The group allows members to upload photos of how Century III Mall in West Mifflin Borough has looked and changed throughout the years. The best part is that you don't have to be a member of the group to click through the dozens and dozens of images.

Wow. Remember Glamour Shots? NRM? Great stuff.

Enjoy!

UPDATE: According to Eric Salmons, who runs the "C3Nostalgia" group, actually joining the group gives you access to more photos than are available publicly.

"I am also in the process of scanning more photos to add to the group in the fall," Salmons says.

NRM! That was awesome. I think my fave was Suncoast video. Remember that Robert? My friend Mark worked there. I got a ton of stuff from there.

Nostalgia is fun, but it really has been about 20 years since that mall has been relevant. They should have leveled it when UPMC offered to buy the property, because now it's just on the long road to decay. Although if they destroyed it & did some sort of indoor/outdoor Waterfront-type retail setup it could find relevance again.

I used to work there for years while in high school. I forgot about a lot of the stores that were there. It has changed so much over the years. I forgot all about Gimbles and Hornes.
