Mr. O'Toole,
Trying not to be rude and intrude...peace be with you on your journey away. I hope your flying on eagles wings healthy and strong. Hope to see you back at school walking the halls in the Fall.

NB, I'm not well-versed enough on his contract to know that answer. Anyone know?

If it is a sabbatical leave for an approved reason, he could get 1/2 salary but with full deductions taken out for pension, medical, and such.
But it could just be another approved leave. In which case it would, as you said, depend on his contract.
If the man needs a leave and is entitled to one, I surely hope no one is going to whine about whatever the particulars of such leave may be.
