The Baldwin-Whitehall Patch has partnered with the Baldwin Historical Society to bring you a weekly trivia question that delves into our area's colorful past.

Pat Lombardi and Patty Woehler, co-presidents of the society, generously write the questions and provide the pictures.

Here is this week's question:

"Fight, team, fight." It's a sure sign that the cheering gang is in action. Win or lose, they're leading the yells of the student body and keeping up the spirit.

And new zest has been added to the Baldwin High School cheerleading squad by an increase in personnel in the form of four boys (pictured, left to right)—Bill Barth, Paul Bower, Chuck Brown and Bob Karl. The boys were coached by lady veterans (pictured, left to right) Nancy Casey, Helen Grossman and Shirley Werner, and the resulting vim, vigor and vitality more than satisfied the Baldwin hepcats.

Which year were these Baldwin cheerleaders leading the cheers?

My observation of the above picture is Pompadour hair styles and Sock Hop skirts...my guess would be the year of 1950.
I wish the girls cheer skirts were still the same length as they were back then. I also wonder if gentlemen of today... guys are still on any of the high school squads?

And the answer is ... 'A,' way back in 1943! Only two people had that!

I am one of the ones that picked 1943. I was remembering old pictures of my mother and her hairstyle and that is how I came up with that answer.

I don't know exactly why but it just felt like war years..... maybe reminded me of Mom's high school cheerleading pics.....different school, same kind of uniforms.
