The Baldwin-Whitehall Patch has partnered with the Baldwin Historical Society to bring you a weekly trivia question that delves into our area's colorful past.

Pat Lombardi and Patty Woehler, co-presidents of the society, generously write the questions and provide the pictures.

Here is this week's question:

The Hamel family lived in this two-story log dwelling located in then-Baldwin Township's Fairhaven area from 1909 to 1954.

The family members depended on kerosene lamps for light, a coal stove for heating and cooking, and outhouses for sanitary facilities, and they laboriously carried all of their water from a cistern some distance away.

The Hamels' house was eventually removed to make way for a country club.

What was the name of that country club?

I think it is Whitehall too Margaret. The hill looks like the right one for Whitehall.

Based on some old maps of what was called the Fairhaven area, I suspect the answer to be Towervue.

But the street Fairhaven is right down the street from the Whitehall Country Club.

Oops! Little late with this. The answer was C, Whitehall Country Club.

Note that the Whitehall Club was on Provost Road, which is connected to Fairhaven Road (near Stewart Avenue and the Route 88 junction).

Good Job Margaret, I wasn't sure where this was at so I didn't even guess this time. Some of these are easy and others you really have to think about.
