REOPENED: McNeilly Road

The popular route throughout Baldwin Township had a lengthy closure.

UPDATE (6:05 p.m.): The road has reopened.

UPDATE (3:40 p.m.): Route 88 is still closed at McNeilly Road. Water has receded, but there is about a half-inch of mud that Pennsylvania Department of Transportation crews are scraping up. Workers at a nearby Monro Muffler shop said that this is the fifth time in recent memory that this area has flooded. The workers said that, within a minute, the water rose 2 feet.

Heavy rain has led to flooding, which has caused McNeilly Road—from Route 88 to approximately Sussex Avenue—to close on Friday afternoon.

Emergency workers are on the scene trying to control water and direct cars away from the area.

Motorists may use Pearce Road/Dewalt Drive on the Baldwin Township-Mt. Lebanon border to get around the flooding.

McNeilly runs through Baldwin Township and the Pittsburgh neighborhoods of Brookline and Overbrook.

I did not realize it was raining that hard out there. I guess it is on its way to Philly, but I hope not!

From the Port Authority: Port Authority’s South Busway is closed south of South Hills Junction. Flooding near the intersection of Routes 51 and 88 is preventing buses from entering the busway at its southern end. Additionally, buses are unable to serve parts of Route 51.

In both cases, the affected bus routes are Port Authority’s Y1, Y45, Y46, Y47 and Y49. These buses are serving regular route to South Hills Junction, then detouring via Warrington, Arlington and Brownsville to Route 51 where they will attempt to finish the rest of their regular route. These routes are seeing delays of approximately 45 minutes.

Other bus routes operating out of the West Mifflin Garage may be delayed due to nearby flooding. These include routes that serve the Mon Valley, Carrick and Squirrel Hill.

Port Authority’s other busways and T system are operating normally at this time with occasional minor delays possible in isolated areas.
