Arrest After Open Can of Beer Found in Center Console

Another DUI charge in Baldwin-Whitehall, this one from the 1400 block of Prospect Road.

A Baldwin Borough police officer stopped motorist Eric Knox, 28, of Hays Street in Homestead Borough, for driving with only one operational headlight in Baldwin's 1400 block of Prospect Road at around 1:10 a.m. on Friday.

The officer smelled alcohol upon approaching Knox in his vehicle, according to a police report. The officer also observed an open can of beer in the vehicle's center console area.

Knox admitted to recently drinking from the can, the officer reported.

The officer put Knox through field-sobriety and breath-analyzer tests, which he failed, before arresting him and charging him with suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. (UPDATE: The charge was withdrawn on Oct. 16.)

The officer transported Knox to Jefferson Regional Medical Center for a blood test—results pending—before eventually releasing him to the custody of a relative in West Mifflin Borough.
