Accident Leads to DUI Arrest on Grace Street
One of the two motorists involved in the accident told police that the other motorist—Richard Joseph Rodgers, 53, of Balconade Drive in south Baldwin—might be intoxicated, according to a police report.
While speaking with Rodgers, a Baldwin police officer reported smelling alcohol coming from him. Rodgers also admitted to recently drinking alcohol, the officer reported.
Another officer put Rodgers through field-sobriety and breath-analyzer tests, which he failed, before arresting him and taking him to the Baldwin police station.
While at the station, Rodgers failed another breath-analyzer test. He was eventually released to the custody of his wife and is being charged with suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
DUI Arrest Stemming from North Baldwin Driving
A Baldwin Borough police officer stopped a motorist near the WHEMCO Building on Route 837 in West Homestead Borough at around 1:28 a.m. on Friday for speeding and swerving while heading south on East Carson Street in north Baldwin.
The officer smelled alcohol while speaking with the driver—Charles Darnell Bethea, 57, of Forest Avenue in West Homestead—and Bethea admitted to recently drinking alcohol, according to a police report.
Bethea then failed field-sobriety and breath-analyzer tests before being arrested and taken to the Baldwin police station.
While at the station, Bethea failed another breath-analyzer test. He was eventually released to the custody of his wife and is being charged with suspicion of DUI.
