2-Hour Delay for Baldwin-Whitehall School District on Tuesday
Frigid temperatures are expected to smack the South Hills.
Baldwin-Whitehall School District Superintendent Dr. Randal A. Lutz has declared a two-hour delay for all district schools for Tuesday, Jan. 22.
The Baldwin-Whitehall area, like most of the Pittsburgh region, is expected to be hit by frigid temperatures this week.
Check back with the Baldwin-Whitehall Patch for updates should Tuesday's delay turn into a cancellation of all district activities for that day.

A delay is pointless, with the temperature only going to 14 degrees tomorrow it makes no difference with a 2 hour delay. It will not be much warmer 2 hours later. All this does is cause problems for parents. Cancel school or have school period bad decision on the Sups part here. Just because all the other school jump off the bridge doesn't mean we have too follow them.

I have been on both sides of the parent fence trying to provide and protect my children. I think the school district made a well rounded sound decision. The school districts loyalty and responsibility is to the child not the parents. There aren't that many delay days and if you are in good standing with your employer and work for a caring employer...I'm sure they would understand the delay was for the safety of your child. If your job or career is of the nature where not so much then it is your parental and individual responsibility to own the challenge and make a back up plan to secure the care and safety of your own child and or children.

NG - I am totally going to disagree with you. I am not sure if you have kids or not, but some kids don't have to worry because all they do is sit in moms car until the bus comes. Other kids do have to stand out in subzero temps and the wind is not supposed to be as bad 2 hours later. I don't want my kid turning into a popsicle. I think he made a good decision

Another consideration is making sure the buses start in the extreme cold temps, so that they can get to the kiddies at the stops at the delayed start time, so kids don't have to wait outside any longer than necessary.
A two hour delay does not cause another day to be added in June, another consideration.
And I'm not sure how BW does it, but in some other places, those delays are delays for the students, not the adult staff and faculty. Which makes sense on a temperature related delay day, not so much on a snow related delay day.

Thank you for serving the other considerations...sometimes people don't see or can not understand the in house operations and or preparations side and all the efforts that are put into serving the guests. Reminds me of Beauty and the Beast ... Be our Guest. Sorry kid at heart. NE12ukid...you are very professional which is good however do you ever loosen your tie and smile once in awhile? I'm assuming your inner being is saying.... thats none of your business. I hope I'm wrong and your life has some joy.
