Research for a potential child care center
Hello,
I am currently working on a business plan for a child care/learning center for the Baldwin area. Preferrably, around Churchview Ave. I have looked into the TRAAC building where the old Bright and early was, but after reading posts and articles, I am not sure. I am having a major dilemma because I cannot build, but I cannot find a lease available in this particular area. I am trying to conduct some sort of market research for the area, so I can find out if families do want a day care back in this area, what rates they want to pay, what hours they need and anything else important to this issue. I would really appreciate any help in this matter from the community. After trying to find a job myself, I find daycare is way too expensive and I want my children at a daycare that the school can take them to in our district. Thank you so much for your time and consideration in this matter.

As a parent of children that were in daycare up until a few weeks ago, I think very important features are to hook up with the school district for before / afterschool programs, but also summer programs. I am fortunate enough to have a retired parent to look after them now, but I know many parents with young school aged children have no idea what to do with their children in the summer once they begin kindergarten.
Good luck and please keep me posted!

Nickie,
I will check with the school district, so thanks for that advice. I really want to make sure I can help the community. I was in the process of looking for a job after staying home with my two young children because day care became too expensive once I had my youngest. I had to quit my last job, finally ready to work again, and daycare is even more expensive now than it was then! Of course it is, right? Well, instead of getting a job where I am not really going to be helping anyone, and to tell you the truth, the job market is not very good anyway, I would rather have a career where I can assist families and provide safe, educational affordable care for the kids. Of course, somewhere close to home, because that is what I wanted. I will keep you posted because I am on a driving mission now!!

I've heard parents ask about childcare for 1-3 days a week. Most day cares, including the one I take my daughter require at least 3 days for part time. Since you are just starting into the business your best bet to limit your cost would be to work out of your home. I know there are a lot of licenses you'll need regardless. I agree with the previous poster about hooking up with the school district.

I have considered doing it in my home which is still a possibility. I just really wanted to help more people in the area since bright and early closed their doors.

My boys went to Mother Goose (which is fantastic btw) and they have before and after school programs with BWSD. The bus picks the kida up in the morning and drops them off afterschool.Munchkin U does this also.
I thought about opening a learning center awhile ago, but unfortunately I can't quit my job to devote that time. If you want some other ideas, my email is nickie0421@gmail.com

BShell, I'm pretty confident that that is Baldwin Borough.
